Costs and Expenses

In Kuokkalan Vetehiset, the membership fee is 93€ per year. This includes the membership fees for your local scout group, Kuokkalan Vetehiset, your regional organization, Järvi-Suomen Partiolaiset, and the national organization, Suomen Partiolaiset. Of the total fee, 19€ goes to Kuokkalan Vetehiset. The remaining membership income is used by the regional and national organizations to develop and support scouting programs and services, such as training. The membership fee also includes scout insurance.

Additionally, there is a one-time starting fee of 20€ when starting the hobby. This covers items such as a new scout’s neckerchief, scout badges, and the Sudenpennun jäljet book for Cub Scouts (ages 7–9).

Weekend trips and sailing excursions have separate fees, which help cover expenses such as fuel, food, and activity materials. These costs typically range from 5€ to 30€, depending on the trip length. The prices of training courses and larger camps are determined individually. There may also be costs associated with acquiring camping gear, but equipment can often be borrowed by asking a scout leader, so purchasing everything new is not necessary. Used equipment can also be bought from online second-hand marketplaces or the scout group’s own WhatsApp recycling group (a link to the group can be requested from the group leader).

There are three different categories for payments. The first family member participating in scouting and all scouts over 17-years-old pay according to payment category I. The discounted payment category II applies to additional family members under 17. Family scouts aged 4–6, whose guardian(s) are members of the scout group, pay only the Suomen Partiolaiset portion of the payment category III, with no additional fees from the regional organization or Kuokkalan Vetehiset. No fee is charged for family scouting members aged 0–3. If you are a member of multiple scout groups, the membership fee is determined by your primary scout group.

A membership fee exemption may be granted based on financial, social, or health-related reasons. This ensures that scouting remains accessible to children and young people from low-income families. For more information on membership fees and instructions on applying for a fee exemption:  https://scouts.fi/contact-information/membership-fees-and-invoicing/
